I just found an interesting article about what really is in dog/pet food… I kind of hope that most of you know that they only put “waste”, stuff we humans wouldn’t eat in your dogs can?! Well, why do you feed it then? There is nothing in wet or dry food that is any good your your puppy… even if it has seen some kind of meat and vegetables at some point, the moment it gets baked at over 500 degrees to kill germs and bacteria everything partly good is gone. To compensate for that they spray protein, minerals and fat on it after it has cooled down. That doesn’t make a lot of sense and it doesn’t sound healthy either.

But have a read for your self: here!

What can you do to make your dogs diet better?! Give your puppy lots of bones, raw meat and vegetables!!!!!

What do I think about commercial dog-food?! Not a lot to be honest. I always try to explain to other dog-owners why they shouldn’t feed their dogs commercial dog food but 90% of the time the answer is: but I buy the most expensive brand – that must be good… Well, it’s not. Why? Because it isn’t natural. Dogs need a little bit of everything and not some dry, smelly stuff – day in and day out. And don’t get me started on canned food!
OK, I’m going to be honest with you – a few years ago I was one of those dog owners as well! I thought if I buy Eukanuba or Nutro Choice I do my dog some good. I changed my mind after I started researching! (and because a friend of mind never gave up lecturing me on how I should feed my doggie, thanks Juanita! ) Personally I don’t care anymore what they write on their labels, I mean look at your dogs bowl tomorrow evening and tell me if you can see the chunky meat and the fresh veggies.

Another advantage of feeding your dog fresh produce are articles like the following one where lots of dogs died after eating commercial dog-food from Optima.

“Three dogs have been confirmed dead, and they all ate the batch of Optima food,” said the Shanghai Naughty Family Pet Co, a pet clinic on Hongqiao Road. These dogs were fussy about their food, had diarrhea and vomited, all symptoms of aflatoxin exposure, staff said. (…)” (MORE HERE)

It does not mean that you are going to spend hours in the kitchen to offer your doggie a healthy choice! At the moment it takes me 7.5 min to make my dog happy. OK, I admit – that is 6.5 min longer than to put dry food in a bowl or open a can, you got me there! But I promise I’ll will get started on the cons and (few) pros of commercial dogfood very soon…

“HELLO WORLD” maybe? Now, that’s a start!
The reason why I’m here is because I love dogs and because I have dogs and because my dogs are happy and healthy and because I believe that the reason for that is the diet they are on.
I have done lots and lots of reading, trying to find the right books and a way to feed my dogs in a healthy way without hiring a gourmet chef or robbing a bank or spending more time to prepare my doggies food than mine…
Personally I think I succeeded as heaps of other dog owners ask me “What do you feed your dog? He is in such a great condition!” Me, proud, usually starts then to lecture them on dog nutrition and I guess they forget most of it on the way home – so here I am – sharing my knowledge and “believes” with you.
I hope you find it interesting! Leave comments, ask questions, tell your friends!
